Redmi Note 9 Pro User Review
The Redmi Note 9 Pro is a solid mid-range smartphone that packs class-leading features at a reasonable price. It comes with an above-average camera, a durable battery and a good design.
It is priced at a reasonable Rs 13,999 and is well worth considering. Despite the premium build, the phone feels smooth and grippy in hand.
Camera
The Redmi Note 9 Pro comes with a versatile quad-camera setup. It combines a 48MP primary camera with Samsung’s ISOCELL GM2 sensor, along with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and 2MP depth sensor.
The primary camera is pretty good in daylight and offers plenty of detail. However, it’s not quite up to par in low-light situations where photos tend to be noisy and lack details.
Thankfully, Xiaomi offers a night mode that helps maintain colour tones and maintain details even in low-light conditions. However, it’s not as good as what you’d get with a higher-end smartphone.
Battery
The battery on the Redmi Note 9 Pro is a huge 5020mAh unit, which is a substantial upgrade from the 4500mAh on last year’s Note 8 Pro. This should help the phone hold up to a long day of use.
Putting it through the Android Authority Speed Test G torture test on a loop, the Note 9 Pro achieved a good 6 hours and 22 minutes of battery life, which is a lot better than we’ve seen from other Xiaomi phones.
However, we found that the device struggles with battery autonomy when the display is on. This makes it a poor choice for people who are prone to leaving their devices unattended, especially during a full-day of use.
Performance
With the Redmi Note 9 Pro, Xiaomi continues to push its best smartphone lineup forward with a faster Snapdragon 720G chipset and a bigger 5,020mAh battery. These upgrades have helped the company retain its market share in a competitive mid-range segment.
Day-to-day performance is also on a par with most competitors, which makes the device an attractive option for casual users looking for a smartphone that won’t let them down. The MIUI 11 software mated to the chipset is a smooth experience that doesn’t lag or stutter at all.
The camera is an important part of the overall package and the Note 9 Pro performs well in day-to-day photography, especially when using AI modes or capturing photos in night mode. However, the images can be grainy with digital artifacts and splotches.
Design
The Redmi Note 9 Pro is an attractive-looking device that has a sleek design and feels good to hold. It also offers a good display and solid performance at a reasonable price.
The phone is made out of glass on the front and back with a glossy finish that repels fingerprints. The plastic frame has a matte finish that makes it gripable and helps to prevent smudges from appearing on the screen.
On the bottom edge, you can find a USB-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack and a bottom-firing speaker. The left side features a SIM card tray and the right edge houses the volume rockers and power button.
Price
When it comes to value, the Redmi Note 9 Pro is hard to beat. It offers everything you need at a price that is a fraction of what you’ll pay for the most premium phones.
While it does not offer some of the most hyped features like a 90Hz display or extremely fast charging, it still performs very well for its price tag. In fact, the Redmi Note 9 Pro is one of the best mid-range devices we’ve seen in a long time.
It’s a great choice for anyone who wants to enjoy a great viewing experience on a big screen, thanks to its 6.67-inch display and long battery life. It also makes a good smartphone for everyday use, thanks to its solid performance and excellent camera.
